Lisa Wessan knows the importance of the 3-Rs: Reducing, Reusing and Recycling, and she has been selected as Chelmsford’s Recycling Champion for June 2009. After visiting Lisa in her North Chelmsford home, it was clear that she is passionate about recycling and composting. She has many systems in place to make her recycling and composting convenient and easy. These efforts have paid off as Lisa and her husband usually only have a half barrel of trash or less to put out each week. Lisa was nominated as a recycling champion by her husband Gary Malkin. For paper recycling Lisa has containers both upstairs and in the kitchen. In the kitchen she collects her paper recycling in a reusable bag that hangs from a hook high on the kitchen door to keep the cats at bay. For a quick way to keep her bottle and can recycling out of her kitchen, Lisa has two cardboard boxes in her garage within arms reach of the door for easy tossing. When they’re full she puts them in the proper recycling containers. With an extremely long driveway Lisa and her husband store their recycling containers in a large garden wagon so they can easy pull it out to the curb on recycling day. Lisa knows that heavy kitchen wastes adds to the town’s trash tonnage and that is why she began composting about one year ago. By collecting her kitchen waste in large yogurt containers, she stores them in the garage and takes them out to the compost bin once a week. They also add their grass clippings and some of their leaves to their composting, stirring it regularly. Lisa has wonderful organizational systems in place and she promotes reducing, reusing and recycling in all aspects of her life. Lisa Wessan is a motivational speaker and runs a program called From Clutter to Clarity: Declutter your heart, your home, and your office. In this program she encourages people to let go of things they don’t use, by donating them to the Lowell Wish Project or Salvation Army. She is also the on-air host of Z-lighter Side of Transformation and has had many guests on to speak about the importance of recycling, and has the website www.MirthMaven.com. Lisa Wessan is a true recycling champion. The CRC is pleased to recognize Lisa Wessan as our Recycling Champion for June 2009, and we hope every resident can make similar efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle. In appreciation for Lisa’s efforts we have provided her a gift certificate donated by Fishbones restaurant. Do You Know a Recycling Champion?
